This social Drama tells the parallel stories of three families in rural Hungary today. The stories of a rich businessman, Árpád, his wife Franciska and their daughter Babita, a photographer called Gábor, his ceramist girlfriend Edina and a prison priest. Their destinies are linked. Many of them live or have lived in the same city and their lives upended by the secrets and crimes that are revealed over a period of 10 years.
Multi-awarded Hungarian director, Sopsits studied in the Academy of Theatre and Cinema. His first feature was “Shooting Gallery” (1989) which opened in the Directors’Fortnight in the Cannes Festival where it was awarded. It was followed, among others, by “Videoblues” (1992) and “Abandoned” (2000), equally awarded, “The Seventh Circle” in 2009, Best Film in the Amsterdam Film Festival, and “Strangled” (2016) which is part of this Hungarian Retrospective. Next came “Supporting Actors” (2023), in competition in the Directors Week in Fantasporto 2024.
