In the 50’s, the Home Research Institute studies the kitchen habits of housewives and cooking men to come up with better design appliances. The man in charge observes an old cantankerous single man but work becomes complicated by a growing friendship with him. This remarkable comedy was screened in the “Directors Fortnight” in Cannes 2003, Hamer’s kitchen comedy has clocked up sales to more than 30 countries, besides bagging the new Europa Cinemas distribution prize in Cannes, as well as the “Un Certain Regard- Prix de la Jeunesse” in 2003. It was also awarded the Golden Swan for Best Direction in Copenhagen Film Fest, The FIPRESCI Prize in Tromso Film Festival, and Jury Award in São Paulo Film Festival, among other awards.
